Great hiking - including more "fourteeners" - and hunting and horseback riding can be found just minutes from the ranch in the million acre-plus Uncompahgre National Forest.

Also nearby, just 10 minutes away, is the town of Ridgway, which has many terrific restaurants, a top-notch grocery store, and lots of other shopping, including antiques, as well as Ridgway Reservoir and State Park, where one can boat and fish. The portion of the Uncompahgre River just below the reservoir's dam is a great tail-water trout fishery year-round. Other high-quality streams and reservoirs nearby include the San Miguel, the Gunnison (and its Blue Mesa Reservoir), and the Animas, as well as the high mountain streams and lakes in the nearby Uncompahgre National Forest.

The historic, Victorian mining town of Ouray, known as the "Switzerland of America," is just a 20 minute drive from the ranch, where you can visit the hot springs or go on a jeep tour of the old mines in the area. 

Telluride, a 45-minute drive from the Little Papoose, is home to many cultural festivals, great restaurants, shopping, and, of course, one of the top ski resorts in the nation. 

Big-box retail needs are met less than 30 minutes away in Montrose, where the regional airport is also located.

Circling throughout the area from Ridgway to Ouray to Durango, Telluride, and back, is the San Juan Skyway, one of the most scenic and spectacular mountain drives in North America.
